How very easy!

Yes, how easy to find my way here. I was kindly given a "link".
How dreadfully clever is all this technology. I can sit here tapping away slowly with my poorly educated one finger, and soon my thoughts will be winging your way.

I suppose I should be saying something constructive about England's performance against their arch rivals Germany. I saw this in my local pub on a wide screen so that all was revealed, in full colour and with high definition. This didn't help I fear. The lager on the other hand did much to console me, and I stayed on to watch the band that played in the evening. So inspiring was the music that the landlady danced on the tables. This delightful spectacle made me forget all about the game, so sadly folks I have nothing further to say about football today, or ever.smiley - smiley

Hello Frank, and welcome (back) to h2g2. smiley - smiley

I've snooped a bit around your PS, and I'm glad your Ace gave you the link to here.

It would be great if you'd contribute to the Post. Maybe you'd like to write us something about your adventurous USA trip? Poems would be very welcome, too.

If you like a challenge, have a look at our acrostic poetry challenge:

Hey, Frank. I'm glad you enjoyed your USA trip.

You must be a lucky person - you made money in Vegas and survived a bear encounter.

Last week, a man in a nearby town here in North Carolina was attacked by a bear in his backyard. He ended up in hospital, but will be okay.

The poor fella has bad luck - he was struck by lightning once, as well.

I'm adding my vote: Please write up your experiences for us. (We'd love to see the picture of the bear, as well. smiley - winkeye)

Somebody will have to tell me how I can put a picture of my darling brave bear on hootoo. I can do words, but pictures? Easy on Twitgoo, mind you.

Did you know that Buffalo Bill did not manage to totally wipe out the bison population. We saw hundreds of them in Yellowstone Park. When I was there many roads were still closed. Ice and snow hang around for a long time in America, and the rangers need to be sure that the public will be safe to camp and roam. We are talking about areas where wild animals roam.

We met a wolf having a poo in the middle of the road. We met deer that were bent on self destruction...good job my 79 year old driver has a very rapid reaction to danger. We were constantly warned about Moose and Elk....they can make a nasty mess of any car....but they were only seen in the distance.

The Bison, on the other hand, were much more obliging. They wandered around as if they owned the place, and lets face it, they are big enough to form that opinion. The calves are very cute. They stand and stare in amazement as their mothers roll around in the dust, trying to cover their bodies with their own urine to ensure that their calf will know mummy from all the other woolly beasts. They are generally very calm animals, well used to human beings, and mostly ignoring us as they went about their bison like tasks. It must have been a doddle for Buffalo Bill. They were sitting ducks.

America is a wonderful country and Americans are such kind generous people. When they say "Have a nice day." they really mean it.smiley - ok

You can't put a photo on h2g2 - but you can send it to the Post (along with an article), and the the Post can send it on to the h2g2 editors who can give it a code so the Post can publish it. Then you can take that code and put the photo on your PS (if you know guide ml). smiley - smiley

smiley - biggrin Yeah. What Bel said. smiley - thepost is your key to fame and fortune...

Well, fame, anyway.

You might be glad to hear that Buffalo Bill repented. He became a conservationist later in life, and worked to control hunting.

The bison was one of the first projects of the Sierra Club, which was formed by John Muir to further preservation. They put out the first herd to be returned to the wild.

It is possible to cross a cow and a bison. The result are called 'beefalo'.

I shall talk nicely to "The Post" then, and offer them a bear that nobody could resist. Perhaps my article should be entitled, "The Bear Essentials.smiley - laugh"

We did not manage to see every state in your fine country; North Carolina was one we missed, but looking at the map again gives me that travel lust. Must watch my carbon footprint!
I particularly like the Atlantic Seaboard, living by the sea as I always have I felt a little sorry for those in the "landlocked " states.
Some years ago I went to Ocean City & Atlantic City, again with my bro-in-law and my big sister Mary, no longer alive bless her. We visited Wildwood, famed for summer camps and its boardwalk. Atlantic City of course with its casinos, was great fun if you are careful with your holiday money. We set a 30$ limit on our spending there, I recall.
I remember it being very hot that year, and the air-conditioning hardly coping in the hotels. Ah happy days playing on the beach with the children, now all grown-ups.
I only have happy memories of America and Canada.
