Our great niece celebrated her 13th Birthday with a few friends sleeping over at the weekend.

Her mother thought they were usually quiet so went to see what they were doing. She was embarrassed to find her 15 year old son reading to an enraptured audience... from her copy of 50 Shades of Grey!!

Ooops! smiley - blush

That's just hilarious! I am rather impressed, both by the young man reading, and the girls being quiet.

I'm seriously thinking about a guide entry on 50 Shades of Grey. Not the book - the colour. Are there actually 50 shades? I might need to raid the Dulux colour chart.

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side...

I have, accidentially, left, various items, which may or may not have been mentioned in the book which I have not read, but which has been mentioned here, laying about, in my bedroom, whilst we had visitors, and also whilst workmen (electriction and plummer), were having to go into the bedroom to carry out work smiley - whistlesmiley - handcuffs

Interesting idea, Icy North.

There are an infinite number of shades of grey, or any color.

In black and white photography, there is a well known method for determining proper exposure that categorizes 11 shades known as the Zone System. Zone 0 is pure black and Zone X is pure white.

On your computer screen there are 256 shades of grey, from pure black 0, to pure white 255.

I use a scanner that is running in 12bit mode so rather than 256 shades, I'm dealing with 4096 shades. Not that they can be displayed on my monitor, of course.

I'm only vaguely familiar with the Pantone color matching system, but I'm sure it breaks down similarly with added nuances for other colors blended with grey. (not truly grey)

What else? I'm sure there is a general scale of how many shades the human eye can differentiate. I'm curious to know if it's more or less than 256. I suspect more but it's probably pretty close to that. (Related: http://www.xrite.com/custom_page.aspx?PageID=77 )

Thanks BG - some good places to start researching there smiley - ok

Ideally, I'd be interested to know if we have 50 named shades: ash, grizzled, charcoal, lead, etc, and where they fit on the black-white scale.

True.... I didn't necessarily have just* the one accidentially left laying about in the bedroom though... I think there was one, and err some bottles of stuff, on top of the set of drawers, some err other things and smiley - handcuffs sitting ontop of the turntable, and probably various other bits lurking about too smiley - blush teach me to keep my room such a tip smiley - blush

Mind I've a solution to prevent this happening in the future, eventually, I'll have a bigger bedroom, and I'll just have all my ... items, out on display, in a proper display cabinate... sod It I just wont' even make any attempt to hide it up in a drawer smiley - blushsmiley - handcuffs hmm.... might need a couple of display cabinates, and hooks and .. smiley - run
