I agree with SetupWeasal happiness should be the goal of humanity. Yes we will make attempts to colonise other planets but that road is very long. We are here because we are here so we might as well enjoy what we've got.

If you search H2G2 for happiness the top result is an entry on Prozac.

Unfortunately, I'm not happy with just anything, so I have to look for the things that make me happy.
The trick is finding what you really need, not just what you think will make you happy.

Your right, I can't tell you where to find happiness. I think it amounts to collecting together all the things that you value and saying thank God. I'm trying not to use the G word. You might find the answer by replying to "Si" under either of his articles "Reality" or "Genetic Algorithm".

Can you be happy if there's something you think you really need, but can't get it?

You have to be realistic about aspirations I know people who would love to have a soul mate but realistically they have already got all the soul mates there are likely to find i.e. there close family. Why should they make themselves unhappy by hoping Mr Right will come along and solve everything.
