Hi , I would think that even knowing aabout the gannel crake means that you live in or around Newquay . I used to live in Crantock and spent thousands of hours down the gannel with my mates , camping , fishing , surfing ! I spent the first 17 years of my life growing up in Crantock and you are not going to believe this but I have heard the Gannel Crake .
It Was only once and I was with 8 or 9 friends at the time . We were typical teenagers and decided to go down to Gannel one friday night . We managed to get an adult to buy us alcohol and headed down the hill , or Beach road as its called .
We had not touched any of the alcohol on the way down the hill and as we approached the car park , probably about 15 ft away from the parking attendents hut . We all heard the worst sound any of us had ever heard . It was'nt loud , probably as loud as an average size dog barking from the length of a swimming pool away . We were all really scared even though we tried to look 'Hard' to each other , to me , it sounded like 'help me' but not just one person saying it . It was more like many people screaming 'help me' at the same time but sounding like they were in great pain . We did not go down any further and made our way back to the village , constantly looking back all the way .
We only went down there again in daylight . Hope to get a message back ! Good talking to someone !
