Pig on the wing Started conversation Dec 1, 2004
A rather vague conversation about music in general, really.
Who's your favourite band?
Is there a song that makes you laugh every time you hear it?
Or cry?
What are you listening to at the moment?
Feel free to answer all and more.

Just to let you know, my favourite band would have to be Pink Floyd, followed closely by The White Stripes.

The songs of David Gray can make me cry... The Songs of Tom Lehrer will always make me laugh... The band I've been favouring most recently A Perfect Circle.

I am not sure what band, or artist, is my "favorit " per-say. But, there are most certenly a few I adore, those bands which I love, and listen to regularly are Chumbawumba (curently listening to them), Dave Matthews, Alanis Morriset (will you marry me!?), Blind Melon as well as Moby. However, it is hard to find music I don't really like, or find some respect for, well, save for rap... I hate rap...

Not at all... Though Chubawumba does somehow seem an odd group for a USian to have an interest in somehow...
My favourite polictical song at the mo - A Perfect Circle > 'Imagine'.

Why is it odd? I am very left wing... very... so left wing I hated kerry, and nader, and all others... well, not hated. But I did not like ANY of them... I am strange (sigh) and you even knew I was american, drat! Do I speak THAT funny!?

I'm not saying it is odd, as such. But it kinda *seems* odd because even on a site like hootoo which has a mainly libral membership you don't meet that many USians that are *that* far to the left. Also Chumbawumba are fairly obscure.
Stating you are from the US on your space kinda gives the USian thing away.

I guess me saying it would give it away.... *sigh* Yeah, I LOVE how obscure they are! What can I say, m just simply obscure!

"Chumbawumba are fairly obscure"
Horse pucky. They were all over VH1 and MTV for most of a year.
Walmart still carries an alblum of theirs.
Generalities in the face of facts become stereotypes.
Anyway, my mostest favorites are the works of Eddie Lang and Joe Venuti, whose early guitar and violin swing jazz led to Django Rheinhardt and Stephane Grappelli's style in Le Hot Club de Paris (or something like that).

One of my favorite alblums is by them, "Wish You Were Here", but I wouldn't say I'm in love with the Band.
That would have to be reserved for the likes of Cheap Trick, whom I like as people and musicians more than I like many of their alblums.
Jimmy Lunceford's bands were marvelous regardless of what they were playing.

Tubthumping was actually a really big hit in the US, the type of one you just can't avoid anywhere while it's in the charts.
Of course, it's not as overtly political as most of their material, and that might have something to do with that.

Right now I'm listening to Float On...but it came up on iTunes on shuffle.
I can't list all the bands I love but I'm very, very enthusiastic about David Bowie and Ok Go. And...Medeski, Martin & Wood. I used to love The White Stripes but I got bored. I still adore The Strokes.
One of my current favorite songs is Carry On My Wayward Son by Kansas.

the white stripes are amazing.
i cant believe that nobody's been on this site since last year! maybe it's ont of those things that everyone makes as a new year's resolution - not to go on any more of those stuip chat rooms! then again, i shouldn't be here either, having an exam tomorrow and all. i can't believe i just discovered it. douglas adams was amazing! i've just started reading "salmon of doubt" and i love him.
sorry, a little off the topic there. yes, erm, i'm not so much of a pink floyd fan (that's old people's music) but the red hot chili peppers are well cool.
