A mysterious explosion destroys the (CRF) Chernoton Research Faciliy near Moscow. Lucifer-Alpha a deadly biological weapon under secret development there is released into the Atmosphere creating a deadly biohazard. Carried by the trade winds it spreads throughout Eastern Europe and Eurasia destroying 80% of the population, half the world's people die. Later it becomes simply know as "THE CATASTROPHE" but who could possibly imagine that the ultimate biohazard wouldn't occur for another half century.
