Gnomon - time to move on

Eating Ice Cream is not a good idea when you're really hot. The calories in the Ice Cream will heat you up more than the ice will cool you, although the initial impression is that you are being cooled.

Calories from food literally heat your body? Can you use ice cream to heat yourself on a cold day? This seems peculiar to me. I thought the reason animals used enzymes for digestion was precisely to keep catabolism temperatures low.

Calories are energy. They are used for doing work, but no machine or mechanism is 100% efficient and the human body is in this respect just another mechanism. Some of the calories do the work and the rest heat you up.
