Today's journal was going to be about my father-iin-law. In fact I drafted it out, it was very long, then I deleted it. It was too heavy and in the end I decided this isn't the place.
Instead I'll tell you how yesterday morning, when out walking the dog, I thought of a Calvin & Hobbes cartoon. It was dry & bright and there were still some lovely colourful autumn leaves on the trees and lying around, and it reminded me of the cartoon where Calvin is complaining how the falling leaves remind him summer is over and it's back to school, that he'll be getting up and waiting for the bus in the cold and rain, and Hobbes says he thinks autumn leaves are nature's fireworks. Calvin carries on complaining then looks angrily at Hobbes, who is throwing his arms up and going Zing! Kapow! at the trees. Nature's fireworks, I like that.
It's eerie how often a moment in life can remind me of a Calvin & Hobbes cartoon.
