i would imagine that fame and notoriety would have something to do with the work ethic. of course, not everyone is driven by the same motives. i'm sure there are as many different reasons for working in theater as there are people working in theater.
it sounds as if you have perhaps lost your direction... have you considered a move to another industry?
were you wanting to simply start a discussion on this topic, or are you wanting help in creating an edited piece detailing the underside of the theater business? if the latter is your aim perhaps interviewing a few of your fellow production people will provide some insight. you might also ask theater patrons what they expect to get out of an evening of theater to help gain a sense of purpose.
so, is everyone connected with production considered a thespian, or does that term only refer to the actors?
