A Conversation for English Pub Names

The long & short of pub names

Both the longest and shortest pub names in england can be found in a rather small and obscure town in England called Stalybridge which seems to be a boom area for pubs.

The longest is 'The 13 Cheshire Astley Rifleman Corps Inn' (Try telling a taxi driver that after about 13 pints) and the shortest is 'The Q Inn'.

I think the only other notable! thing about Stalybridge is the fact that the song "It's a long way to tipperary" was written there they've even put up a blue plaque to celebrate this.

One of my favourite pub names is 'the who'd have thought it', of which there is at least one in a little village called Milton Combe in Devon. At least it's different. I'd be interested to hear if any other pubs share this name. There are certainly none in South East Essex, where I live.

There's a pub in Welling (north Kent) called the "Who'd have thought it?" The last time I was there (about 5 years back) they had the worst pub singer I've ever heard in my life. A nice pub though, despite the "entertainment".
