This is an entry about what my hometown is always refered to. I am not proud.

Hmmm... This is an interesting topic for an entry, but it has me a little confused.

It seems like there are a few main bits:

1) This town has a special type of fish called tommy cod
2) People like to ice fish for the tommy cod
3) People don't like to freeze their knickers while ice fishing for the tommy cod
4) People build little ice fishing shacks and do their ice fishing from their
5) There are certain times each year when this is especially popular

I think it's the bit about the shacks where I became confused, as the entry seemed to imply that the town had invented the use of shacks for ice fishing. I just found that a bit... fishy. Lots of other places in other countries also use shacks for ice fishing, so I guess I'm not so quick to believe that one place necessarily started it first. It just kind of seems the common sense thing to do.

Just my smiley - 2cents
Mikey

I must admit you are right. It's a matter of scale. Fishing in shacks may be widely popular elsewhere, but here it has reached a level of organisation and popularity thats probably unique.

We are talking standardised shacks, with a capactity of 5 to 15 occupants. Each equipped with a small wood or even oil stove. All this surrounded by a nation-wide promotional campaign, a regulated rental system and oversea popularity (well... mostly frenchsmiley - erm).

I'm going to update this entry to make it more clear, and less pretentious. I'm even going to emphasis the ridiculousness of all this, mainly because Tommy Cod is a fairly small and uninteresting fish.

Thanks for your comments!smiley - cheers

Some external links might help make it clear what an established kind of thing this is. On a quick Yahoo! search, this is an interesting looking one I found -- it even has a picture of a tommy cod. smiley - smiley

I updated the entry with a better description of our shack design, the point being its what make them different, besides the whole touristic aspect.

Also, I included two links to external sites. They both contain pictures that are complementary to each other, so event if the first one is in french, it can be useful for its visuals.smiley - smiley

I'm just not sure wich word to link from.
