hi night-eyes,

Nice to meet you! smiley - smiley

Margaret Atwood is one of my favourite authors and also one of the most 'disturbing' authors I've come across. In fact, once in my twenties I read a short story of hers that pretty much ended up with me having a bit of a nervous breakdown. smiley - erm

Yes, I quite enjoyed Oryx and Crake whilst cringing about how 'real' her version of the future might possibly be. Especially as her 'future' idea could happen tomorrow . . .

So hey, while you're here, I'd like to invite you to have a look at my h2g2 friends photo gallery and also join us there, if you'd like to.

Well, it's impressive that after your first encounter with her you kept following her work! smiley - ok

I have read only two of her books - the "The Blind Assassin " came first. So "Oryx and crake" was quite a surprise being so different from the first. I was walking around like zombie for days after that, my mind still thinking about that vision of the future... And reality shows, which I never really liked, suddenly seemed like pure evil smiley - winkeye

Oh, and thanks for the link - I'll take a look right away!

In fact, the 'nervous breakdown' inducing short story was far from my first encounter with Margaret Atwood - I'd been reading her stuff for years.

The Handmaid's Tale is yet another futuristic nightmarish book, but she's also written very funny and enjoyable books about the psychology of relationships - The Robber Bride is probably one of her 'lightest' on this theme, but not without a bit of 'darkness' going on.

I find her not only amazingly intelligent but also intellectual, meanwhile, also very empathetic, which I think is often a hard balance to create. She loves science but I think also loves psychology just as much - you can see it in her characters as they all come across very 'real and believable'.

Well, let me know what you think of the gallery. smiley - smiley
