Apropos of nothing except your new "nom de guerre", I wondered if you could help me with a piece of popular culture that recently came to my attention.

At the beginning of The Prisoner, Patrick MacGoohan says, "Who is Number 1?"

Does Number 2 reply, "You are Number 6" or does he say "You are, Number 6" giving away the whole thing?

I'm sure you have come across this idea before, but I, in my naivete have watched all the episodes dozens of times without this ever occuring to me before!

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Been running around like a headless chicken all day. Missed the fun on the Nature board too. Have to take off again very soon, so just a quick note for now.

This is a very interesting question you pose. I've watched the series several times, and it's never occurred to me. This is the opening dialogue:

"Where am I?
In the Village
What do you want?
Information
Whose side are you on?
That would be telling . . .
We want Information
You won't get it
By hook or by crook . . .
We will
Who are you?
The new Number Two
Who is Number One?
You are Number Six
I am not a number . . .
I'm a free man!"
(Mocking laughter)

BTW, I have also just discovered to my horror that I am not the only Number Six. There are two others, which makes Number Eighteen in total.

Glad to have stirred something up with the "You are, Number 6" idea!

You didn't really miss much with the nature site raid this morning. The mods were onto us so fast you would think they'ed been tipped off . We were just getting into it and the mod-emails started flying and the whole thing disappeared!

On the subject of Charisma Carpenter . I always liked her even when she was Buffy's jokey nemesis in the first couple of BTVS series. If you have seen Angel Series Three, you will have seen her really coming into her own and (spoiler!!!) almost becoming a god.

Goes the day well ? Had a chance to watch some Prisoner vids today. Your theory may well be correct. I'm going to have to find my tape of the last episodes, to check it out. Re Charisma Carpenter, I bet you are a fan of Diana Rigg in The Avengers too
