What exactly did you do? I have no idea how to 'hide an Entry'. And when you undo it, does the captcha keep coming or does it stop?

The effect is you hide the entry from public view (Something smiley - thepost did in the early days)

Hide and delete are not the same. If you delete something in Ripley it is still visible in Pliny although it won't show up in searches.

It's full of bugs, but we've been specifically told that we are not to report them unless they are security bugs.

Apparently no more Captcha issues, anyone? "

Had been using the XP to start the Entry, needed some external information. Using the DebIan system to collect it pasted it and got Captcha (image not even visible, probably locally blocked).

Anyway, the random Captcha is still active."

COG, if the captcha image is not displayed, that's a different problem.

I've managed to update a large entry A87851596 which the Captcha refused to accept before. So it certainly seems to be working for me now.

I do not care about the image (anymore) after the first few attempts to decipher it and beeing presented with a new entry I stopped trying to pass the humanity test.
I just hit backpage and store local (if possible).

It will be a local addblocker of some strange kind hiding the image, no big deal and (probably) nothing to do with the Captcha. It was the first Captcha on the DebIan, hence I did not came accross it before. "

But if the captcha is working correctly, it will occasionally ask for a code and will accept it, saving your entry.

Captcha definitely isn't slain. Last weekend I completed an article and all I've had to do is copy/paste it from Word into an entry and click 'update', and then it can go into Peer Review. Will Captcha let me?smiley - wah

I'm afraid we have to be patient. I sent my 'report' to Brian (a few notes about the experiments I made) and I hope they are helpful in some way. I know he is working on it, but as far as I understand the CAPTCHA is not our own but belongs to cloudflare. I think that is also the reason why nobody really knows what it does when. It's not h2g2 code. It seems to be very difficult to do things about it. But as I said, I know for sure Brian is working on it.

I can only tell you everyone is equally annoyed by the CAPTCHA.smiley - erm

"Got a Captcha three times on saving a new entry (tiny plaintext) from DebIan, just ignored it (close page) reload NewEntry into another skin, was down to classic then it saved. Total time less then five minutes.

The trigger is still random, the effect is less annoying, at least less persistent. Will concider this 'normal' behaviour for the Captcha. "

Let's think about this a moment. We should be known quantities. Many of us have been posting from the same computers at the same locations for years, if not decades. Why doesn't Captcha trust us to be who we say we are?

Well, normally (at least where I live) your IP changes whenever you re-connect to the Internet. Unless you pay some extra money for a static IP. I know for instance, that my own connection goes through one of about five main servers of my provider which are in my relative vicinity. Every time it's a different server of these few. And I get different IPs.
(I learned that through the security system of Guild Wars 2, which gives you a warning if a server logs in from a new location because its afraid someone tries to steal your account)

So, it's difficult for any prorgam to do what you say.

And I also suspect that the CAPTCHA is not meant to check your location at all. It just does what it does. But that's just my guess. To me it seems whoever programmed it didn't put much thought in the whole thing at all.
