Now, for the entry:
It looks like a promising little entry that I suspect could probably be turned into a fine medium-sized entry.

You have lots of material down there, but it isn't divided into sections, which is preferred for EG entries.

If you're not sure where to put the divisions, try to summarise your main thoughts into a few different sections. Then you can fit all the information into these compartments, flesh them out if necessary, and smiley - ta

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am...

Good entry.

Agree about the expand and divide thing, as it *is* a teeny bit short.

A couple of things I've thought of:
Is there any particular reason for the 'k' at the end of magick? Is is a specifically archaic spelling or is it just to distinguish Wiccans from Paul Daniels?

It may be worth mentioning which faiths Isis, Pan, Horus, Aphrodite and Hecate orginiate from, also that 'Cerrunos' is also known as 'Cernunnos'.

Finally the whole balance thing might be worth a paragraph... so often I see some b*ll*cks on TV about how Wicca emphasises the female, or the night or something.

Perhaps you could explain what those principles are.

Is Wicca bound by a set of definitions - as in, 'If you believe x, you must be a Wiccan', or is it largely self-defined?

I think the title would look better as 'What is Wicca?' but that's just my personal preference.

Looking good so far!smiley - ok

Hi theresmiley - smiley
If, as I assume, your intention for this piece is to go into PR and onward to the edited Guide, I think that you should be aware before going too far, that there are already EG entries on matters Wiccan at A940141 and A53179453.
Unless you have a different slant on it I would think that it's unlikely that another entry on the subject would be accepted.

Thats the entry on the blue star tradition, not Wicca in general, and the other one is on the history of persecution.

Hey Sereph, you still working on this, or you think it might be best in the Flea Market?

There's already an entry that introduces the concept of Wicca at A531794 - this entry may be superfluous.

Yes but Alex, that entry is apocryphal or at least wildly inaccurate... it even mentions the Burning Times!

Be that as it may, it would either be a matter of updating that entry or ensuring this one doesn't overlap.

darakat - Now with pockets!

Hiya,

The "Wicca a legacy of persecution" article has been a problem for a fairly long time. We have been waning to change it for some time but changing something in the edited guide seems like trying to change something in the constitution, long winded, hard, and fairly non-eventful.

The main problem I see with this article is the lack of references. We can't keep on getting stuff on neopaganism in the guide without such things.

Generic statmenets such as "The gardenarian book of shadows writen by Gardner and Doreen Valiente still underpins most Wiccan traditions" need to have fairly hefty things to back them up. Sorry to make a lot of work for you, but if your going to do this, it has to be done right.

The general text of the article seems a little confusing, are you trying to explain the Wiccan beliefs, Wicca as a religion, or simply say what Wicca is and isn't?

The basic gist of the article seems clear, but its purpose and how its written is fairly hard to follow. Because H2G2 seems to be more about a being a guide then the full facts of the matter it can have some level of creativity but statements such as "Not all witches are Wiccan and vice versa" Need more explaining, especially to a ignorant audience.

I'd like to propose Flea Market. There are two Wicca-related entries in the Guide, A940141 on Blue Star and A53179453 on Persecution, but h2g2's large enough for many articles that deal with different aspects of religious belief, and we do not have an entry that is a general overview.

h2g2 Guide Editors

As Serephina hasn't posted in this thread since 2006 and Flea Market has been proposed twice, I think this can be moved to the Flea Market.
