Marches in Australia

Hi Ben
Just a quick note that we went to the peace-march in Hobart (Tasmania) along with between 15,000 and 20,000 others. This is a pretty good turnout for a town of only 180,000. About 200,000 marched in Melbourse and about 500,000 in Syndey, with tens of thousands in other places around the country.
Bob Brown, who is the leader of the Australian Greens, spoke in Hobart (and in many other places). He noted that in 1996, our Prime Minister (Howard) was quoted as saying that "violence is never the answer to anything". And yet here he is the most vocal suppporter of Bush after Blair.
We were so encouraged by the global response. Keep up the good work.
Cheers
Bran.

One of the things which I mention in the entry, and which I have been considering more and more recently, is the impact of the Internet on this war. You and I could not be discussing war or peace without it.
The previous Gulf War was shaped by television; the marches would have been impossible without the Internet. I am convinced that one of the ways in which this war will be different is because it will be the first war in Internet time.
I fear. But I also hope.
Ben
