One of the most annoying things while driving around an unfamiliar town is the inability to find a decent radio station playing music you like. If you're driving around St. Louis, then hopefully this will help.
There are many radio stations within the St. Louis area. Depending on your mood, interests, or time of day there are many stations that can be recommended.
For the rock music fan, KSHE 95 (94.7 FM) and KHits 96.3 are both recommended. KSHE has been on air since 1967 playing a format of new and classic rock while KHits focus' on classic rock from the 1960s and 70s.
92.3 WIL or 93.7 "The Bull" are the best choices for Country Music fans.
Rap and Hip Hop fans have a number of stations to choose from. "Foxy" 95.5 and "Hot" 104.1 are the newer of the stations in the area, while Magic 105 (104.9 FM) has been around for quite a few years and is known for playing a mix of old and new music.
For fans of Adult Contemporary music Y98 (98.1 FM), 100.3 "GenX" and 106.5 "The Arch", are recommendable. Y98 plays more contemporary music and 100.3 and 106.5 tend to play a a larger mix of 90's and contemporary.
Jazz fans have a limited selectionin the area with 88.7 WSIE being the only station.
103.3 KLOU, 770AM WEW, and 1430AM WRTH are three wonderful stations that play 1940s through 1970s popular music.
People looking for news can tune in to 90.7 KWMU or 1120AM KMOX for a mix of local, national, and international news. 90.7 also carries the BBC World service during the overnight hours.
Fans of talk radio can tune into 90.7 FM, 97.1 FM or 550AM KTRS for good call-in talk shows.
For Sports talk and news 101.1 FM WVRV, 590AM KFNS, 1190AM KRFT, and 1380AM KSLG are the choices on the dial. 101.1 FM carries ESPN Radio and St. Louis Rams American Football games. 590AM carries local sports talk, and news. 1190AM carries the Fox Sports Radio feed, but the station shuts down in the evening. 1380AM carries the feed for the Sporting News radio network.
During the morning rush hour, most of the music stations carry talk-heavy morning shows. 88.1 KDHX and 89.1 "The Wood" both use this time to focus on music. 88.1 has a different DJ each weekday morning so the genre of music changes each day. 89.1 plays adult contemporary music, but is known for not playing any commercials. Both are a nice change of pace from the commercial heavy airwaves.
