A Conversation for Talking Point: How Did You Discover the HHGTTG?

I don't remember my first contact with HHGTTG so I'm assuming it was one of those shows my brain digested before tea every weeknight instead of doing my homework. Along with the Goodies, and Dr Who, I believe the show held that prime time spot for kids when parents are either busy cooking tea or getting home from work. That time is kids time when there is no one around to badger you to watch something useful or ...educational.

I'm pretty sure that my first exposure to the stories was through television as I remember taking the images of Ford and Arthur with me when I finally did read the books. I also remember thinking it strange that the first book finished before the show...that in fact the show was HHGTTG and Restaurant at the End of the Universe.

It continues until this day. I own a copy of the DVD, but the books only make rare appearances into my house via the local library.

I must have been a pretty wee kid when the tv series first came out, cos I remember being initially enchanted by the theme music, then begging to be allowed to stay up to watch the show itself, and being allowed to do so, even though it was late or something smiley - erm

and then, when I was like 6 or 7 ish, I read the first book, then the second, then third then fourth, then I read them again, and again, a few times a year, then the fifth came out, and I read it, and read it again, and re-read all five a few times every year, bought the videos, copied the record and the radio versions, and generally devote far too much of my time to HHGTTG in general I suppose...

Well it is the nature of Vogon poets to devote far too much time to one thing...smiley - biggrin...but in this case, we'll make an exception.
