Wowbagger

I have thoroughly enjoyed them all spimcoot, but this is my favourite thus far . The writing has a wonderful flow and magnificent imagery. I almost didn't need the picture at the end, (though I'm glad it's there).

Marvellous.

-Gosh, this thread reads like a book jacket. Miss Tibia, hie thee hither with your shorthand pencil and take these memos-

to Wowbagger: glad you’re enjoying it as much as I am. Seems all too easy for me to imagine myself a sickly child, though I myself was only sporadically ill when young, usually on PE days. But it’s nice when everthing fits; I’m sure you’re finding that with Newbie as it certainly comes across like that. This week’s is a gem of concision. Beautiful.

-or is that too slushy Miss T? Take out the bits about clarified butter, and whicheversomever of the licking and nibbling references you see fit-

to shazz: I remember when trompe l’oeil made an appearance in I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue’s definition game and someone came up with ‘oo, that one made my eyes water’.

to MaW: thank you kind sir. The handwriting is actually my own but slightly less joined up and missing the top hat and tails on the capital ayes (I shot the serif). Fancy coding it? (Is there money to be made at the typeface?)

to Greebo: if what you say is true then I surmise that doughnuts are also a bird’s best friend. But be honest now, is it just that they don’t fly away when you pounce on them?

to jwf: I’m especially pleased to hear from you this week as you were in the back of my mind when I was writing this one. I felt that the central concept might be something you’d appreciate.

-Thank you Miss Tibia, your fingers must be tired, come soothe them in my hair-

Spimcoot, I would love to be able to make typefaces, but it's a horribly difficult art that I have no skill in. That's why fonts are so expensive smiley - sadface

Je ne magreet rianne! smiley - laugh I nearly made a terrible mess of my lunch over that one. Could you possibly put a warning on that sort of thing next time, something along the lines of "Not to be read while eating, driving or playing trombone"?

Well well, there you are, just goes to show... I didn't know if that joke would go over at all and there's Insid. nearly inhaling his sandwiches because of it. At least I assume it was sandwiches. Not, say, a haunch of venison. A haunch of venison would be very difficult to inhale I imagine; practically impossible, especially if it hadn't been cooked properly and was still attached to a deer roaming free through woodland dells.

So no. Not only would it be hard for me to know where to put warnings, but it would also fly in the face of the false modesty which is central to the code of the spimcoots.

For those of us who are not blessed with the ability to speak French, may I be so bold as to ask for a translation?

(btw - I'm glad you like 'Newbie' spimcoot smiley - smiley)

I have no French either Wowbagger. At the risk of exploding the joke it's just a pun on Edith Piaf's song Je Ne Regrette Rien (I regret nothing, roughly).

Altogether now:

Non, rien de rien.
Non, je ne regrette rien

Ah, a good old knees up just like the old days.

And I believe the 'magreet' pun refers to a famous french detective.

uep, I would say it was Rene Magritte- French artist famous for bowler hats and being in the title of a Paul Simon song.

Yeah, that's right. And why would Munchers feel the need to call in detectives anyway? Silly me, must learn to think before I speak, I think. It's elementary really.

Sorry, Magritte's the man, but he is Belgian. Maigret, the detective, was French but Simenon, who created him, was another Belgian. And Maigret smoked a pipe... but was it a pipe?

As Magritte said: 'c'est ne pas une pipe, so kindly stop trying to stuff tobacco down the end of it Madame'.

Quite fond of Magritte myself, but I think that is more for the suits and bowler hat than anything else. Not actively seen much which is something I really ought to rectify, probebaly with a very large diode.
