Out here on the Wet Coast (as I've mentioned elsewhere) the Coast Salish (First Nations) name for the ocean or a large, fast moving body of water is *Skookumchuck* which means great or impressive water. We regularly use *skookum* to describe something impressive (*Skookum lookin' boat ya got there*) and *chuck* for the ocean (*He fell right in the chuck!*)
