The Majestic-12 Operation

The MJ12 was a group of twelve men organized during President Harry S. Truman's term of office. The group's alleged purpose was to investigate reports of extra-terrestrial activity. The group's membership included a panel of scientists and millitary personnel who reportedly were:

  • Dr. Vannevar Bush
  • Admiral Roscoe H. Hillenkotter
  • Secretary James V. Forrestal1
  • General Nathan P. Twining
  • General Hoyt S. Vanderberg
  • Dr. Devltev Bronk
  • Dr. Jerome Hunsaker
  • Mr. Sidney W. Souers
  • Mr. Gordan Gray
  • Dr. Donald Mensel
  • General Robert M. Montague
  • Dr. Lloyd V. Berkner

The group later vanished into anomonimity, save for a few record papers recovered authorizing the MJ12 operation. Interesting enough, scientists on the panel worked mostly in the areas of aerodynamics, biophysics2, and mental health.

1Died in 1949 and was replaced by General Walter B. Smith2On of the founders of this branch of science worked on the MJ12 operation.
