I enjoyed the trailer for Dumplin - I like those kinds of films, too, with a bit of cheese and a satisfying ending, and bringing different worlds together to learn from, as you say.

The phrase 'target demographic' reminds me of the time I filled in a survey when I was 30-something, about a TV channel called BBC Three. I learned that I was part of the target demographic (people aged 25 to 35) but had to admit I didn't watch anything on that channel, as the output didn't appeal to me. When I got to the age of 36, they started broadcasting great shows such as Ru Paul's Drag Race, and competitions for young people to demonstrate skills, eg cooking, clothes making and makeup. Not the kinds of activities I would enjoy doing, but just the kinds of programmes I enjoy watching - I admire the skills on show, and enjoy the moments when people ponder poignant themes, so the participants and the audience learn something new

I know what you mean - why should we only watch shows about people just like us? I've just spent a couple of hours watching a story set in space followed by one about a man who can turn invisible. Very relatable.

People doing weird things can be intriguing and make you think about your own choices.

I have no intention to get myself (or other contestants) shot during kids games for money, but the concept makes you wonder how civilised we are as a species, when it really comes down to it.

Oh, I guess evolution is still happening, only not in a direction that is particularly good for humanity, in my opinion.

That's a cycle, in my book. Every so often, somebody does this. It's never good.
