paulh, the apocalypse is coming, it's just late

I still have a 4-volume set of Dewey decimal classification manuals (edition 21, 1996). I was a cataloguer for 14 years. After I retired, a new library director came along and dismantled all the call numbers, replacing them with subject stickers. I think the other libraries in the network still use call numbers, mostly Dewey.

But the Pilgrims' Inn library stocks fiction. Some genres of fiction still sell well as print items, light paperback romances, for instances. I'm guessing that people who bring something to read on the beach don't want to get sand or salt spray on their Kindles.

And picture books for children -- or *by* children like Donald Trump.

The church I go to still uses printed hymnals.

I confess that I've been afraid of screwing up this month. It's unnerving that when I posted the last chapter, there were two typos smiley - yikes. Don't worry, I fixed them just before posting.

I like Mr Dewey's system. I could probably still find most books by that system.

That's not why Dewey was 'problematic'...smiley - rofl More because he was a one-man inspiration for the #MeToo movement, an antisemite, and a complete nutcase. (He almost changed his last name to 'Dui' because...spelling reform.)

Why not "Doei"? That means Goodbye around here and sounds the same.

Just finished reading the whole of Pilgrim's Inn. You covered a lot of source material, half of which was new to me. Thanks for the enlightnment.

I see how you approached it as a series of short stories within a fixed framework. This worked well.

Should we now call you Ozymandius?smiley - run

It was a lot of fun. smiley - smiley

Dmitri was a huge help when he suggested using Project Gutenberg. I could read all those classics in print large enough to see online.

I also have a chapter 42, but don't know if I will post it. smiley - winkeye

That is at the risk of needing a chapter 31-41 too.
