Maybe if you have a heated pool, many ducks would come to visit. That way you would have a non-zero count (and a huge energy bill).

Snow makes it easier to spot birds, not easier to be birds though.

There's a 3000-acre county park near where I grew up. For Europeans: our idea of a 'park' doesn't necessarily involve formal gardens, at least outside cities, but does involve hiking trails and picnic areas.

Anyway, there's a fair-sized lake in it, 300,000 sq m according to W*k*. The ducks there are very tame and extremely dumb, according to us locals. Every fall, the park people had to go out after the first freeze and rescue the ducks that fell asleep and were now stuck in the ice.

A couple of years ago, there was an alligator in there. Alligators do not belong in Pennsylvania, so a sighting always causes much excitement.
