I've been round the Tower of London (with Bel) and I wish I'd taken more notice of the Tower ravens now.

Are the royal ravens like a writing desk?

I thought you'd mention that after complaining that the ravens were always leaving dirty marks on his telescope and asking for them to be killed and being told that they couldn't be killed without the country falling, John Flamsteed managed to persuade Charles to build him a new observatory somewhere ravenless, founding the Greenwich Observatory.smiley - shrug

Excellent Entry smiley - ok Linktastic! I like how you weave the different threads together smiley - magic

"blue-bloodied" - blooded?

"Yeomen Wardens" - Yeoman Warders?

"This entry is about another queen entirely – the queen of the Tower ravens" - is there a bit more you can say about Merlina (eg how old she was in 2020, etc)? or is it more the case that the Entry "features" another queen, rather than being "about" the queen of the Tower ravens?

Perfect concluding sentences smiley - ok

Thanks Sasha! smiley - ok

I have corrected the mistakes smiley - doh

It is reported that Merlina was 14 when she disappeared - although some sources say she joined the Tower ravens in 2007, including the Ravenmaster's Twitter feed (yes, I've checked), which would make her more than 14.

Thank you for your kind comments. I love linking obscure things, so glad you enjoyed the read. smiley - biggrin

I understand these links aren't working for everybody, so I have created an album at Facebook, which I've made public. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10158568561276185&type=3

Very smiley - cool entry!

I always wondered where that raven business got started! I didn't know about the stuffed raven at the Free Library, either, wow.

Shameless plug: could you add the Poe entry at A87950721 ?

The only point I'd dispute is whether or not Charles II can be considered unlucky. His reign may have been an unlucky one, with the big Fake News scandal of the non-existent Popish Plot, but he didn't personally burn in London or die of the plague. He was born in exile and became king of England, Scotland and Ireland - which seems a huge stroke of luck to me. Not only did he become king but reigned for a reasonable period - almost 25 years, which is the 7th longest reign for an English monarch between Alfred the Great and the Acts of Union in 1707 when the kingdom of England became part of the Kingdom of Great Britain.
He wasn't murdered, executed or died in battle, unlike Edmund I, Edward the Elder, Edward the Martyr, Harold, William Rufus, Richard the Lionheart, Edward II, Richard II, Henry VI, Edward V, Richard III, Jane, Charles I... smiley - winkeye

On the other hand, his father WAS executed, he had to flee as a young man, and he was forced to live in precarious exile for years, so there's that. smiley - laugh

Sorry - I didn't mean 'born in exile' but changed what I was typing halfway through. I meant he fled to exile with the luck of not being found in a tree (just like a squirrel chased by a smiley - dog). 'Course not expecting the entry to be changed, just a fun discussion point smiley - winkeye

He had luck both good and badsmiley - shrug
