Blizzard is thinking about the future of World of Warcraft

Recently, South Korean gamers have received unexpected surprises. Blizzard Entertainment announced that World of Warcraft subscribers will have free access to the game after the release of StarCraft II.

This partly reflects the most serious problems facing World of Warcraft. A reasonable and reliable business model is what World of Warcraft will need in the future. Whenever I need to use WOW Classic Gold in the game, I always think of ZZWOW, where I can buy cheap and secure WOW Classic Gold. If you need it, you can visit ZZWOW's official website.

At a developer conference, World of Warcraft lead designer Tom Chilton pointed out that in a sense, the paid subscription model of World of Warcraft is not necessary. However, considering the consumption of various resources and the maintenance of the server, cancelling the subscription fee is not within the consideration of Blizzard. At least in the near term, a steady monthly subscription fee is a major source of World of Warcraft profit.

But it is undeniable that Blizzard is facing an unprecedented crisis. According to data regularly released by Blizzard on the official website, players have been losing over the years. The same is true of many major Western games, such as The Lord of the Rings Online and Dungeons and Dragons Online. In order to change this, most game publishers have adopted a variety of methods, such as learning from Asian-style games, converting the game to a free-to-play model, and selling profits by selling high-level items in the game. Chilton said that this approach is not an attempt to directly compete with World of Warcraft.

He believes that the purpose of these game companies is to compete with similar user types in a limited player market, thereby attracting those who are keen on free-to-play games. Obviously, this part of the player is not the target of World of Warcraft.

However, as this situation appeared more and more, Blizzard had to prepare for the future of World of Warcraft. TheĀ Classic WOW Gold development team can imagine that if a new MMORPG using a subscription model appears, there will inevitably be a loss of players. When the main group in the game joins other games, charging a subscription fee will be a wrong move. Of course, Blizzard may design such a game in the future. At that time, players may be able to enjoy World of Warcraft for free while subscribing to new games.

World of Warcraft uses a Western style subscription model in South Korea, where it is sold purely as a digital download, but subscribers will also be given free access to the forthcoming StarCraft II. Given the popularity of StarCraft in the country this is more to drive sales of Warcraft than inevitable hit StarCraft II.
