Writing Right with Dmitri: Stepping Out of the Main Stream
Do you sometimes feel that your writing is getting stale? It can be because the world is crowding in on your thoughts. There's so much information flowing around us these days, we can get lost in it. We can also be in danger of letting all that chatter overwhelm our own ideas. Here's a suggestion.
Take a media vacation for a few hours. Think of something that's not going on right now. Go to that place and let your imagination play for awhile. Call it 'the dog park of the mind'. Let your thoughts off the lease, and let your mind sniff a few bushes.
Look at an old photo album. Recall an old song. Close your eyes, and summon up a memory. Sit on the porch, watch the rain, and remember summer storms past.
Don't worry about tomorrow. Heck, don't even think about today. Don't think about you at all. Just let the thoughts flow.
The rest of the world will be there when you get back.
