Another abstract piece of nature! Tones, emphasised by the shadows in the background, lead the eyes into the maze of shapes.

Wood, lava, fossils? Black and white lends itself to the abstract. It does indeed conjure up thoughts of some mythical beast trapped in the rock.

Nice Shot CRE.

Interesting formation lots of subtle tones that draw the eye into the photograph. The texture is very interesting it, looks very similar to a dry riverbed, thought provoking and well observed image.

Thanks for the comments.

In case you want to know, it is a tree root that has been polished because it's part of a step in a trail.

At least, I think it was a tree root.

I was hoping it would turn out to be a root. Roots matter in this world. It's high time they got a little respect (except when they plug up my sewer line smiley - cross)

And it's a Swiss root at that. Encountered it on a series of geocaches along the shore of the Zugersee, the last of which was an underwater cache. Didn't get that one. Gave up to prevent hypothermia, as it was about 20 meters off the shore.
