It's called "Schroon Mountain, Essex County, New York, after a storm." The Mountain is in the Adirondacks.
Cole also painted "Schroon Lake," with the mountain in the distance. The roads around the lake form a 26-mile perimeter, perfect for the Adirondack Marathon, which is held every September.

Thomas Cole was one of the early leaders of the Hudson River School, an important art movement in the 19th century.

All of this is true. The museum didn't know about the marathon, or didn't tell us.
