Great footnotes - compared to that Proust A87909376 is a thriller indeed!
Very interesting reading - started off OK, then the description of the brownness did very much labour the point, but I managed to struggle through, and then emerged into the full blown stream of consciousness that I couldn't relate to so disconnected from: "You may know these things, lady…." indeed!
Very Bloomsbury - reminds me of some Virginia Woolf (although I did enjoy her Orlando as that had a passion in it that I could relate to).
Odle is rather picturesque

I'd love to collect Odle art, I think.
You nailed it! I enjoyed the film 'Orlando' very much. Brilliant. I seriously tried to read that book. I was defeated by Ms Woolf's prose.
I've got a list of people I can't read - Woolf, Lawrence Durrell, Henry Miller...they're all from that period. It's like my uni chemistry text - I read a page, and *can't remember what I read*. It's uncanny...

I do need to see the film Orlando, because Quentin Crisp played Elizabeth I but I haven't yet, sadly. Ms Woolf's prose didn't defeat me, though, as I did enjoy the book
I have found the DVD online so I have ordered it just now
I've not read any Lawrence Durrell, but I never could get into Gerald's writing, so I know what you mean...

Oh, Gerald I like. Lawrence writes pretty much the way you'd expect him to from Gerald's descriptions of him.

I received the DVD of 'Orlando' today - brilliant film indeed... Tilda Swinton is superb, and so is Quentin Crisp It captures the flavour of the book very well indeed
I would have liked to have seen more of Sasha, but that was the same in the book that it rather disappointed me in that respect so I changed that when I used it as inspiration to write my own 'long love letter' http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/148954111X
Thank you for the prompt that I needed to watch the film - very worthwhile indeed
