it seems a little odd to me that the theatre is named after the Mayflower. It might be a famous ship but I thought the people who sailed in it were Puritans and therefore might have disapproved of theatres.

Of course, you can't call a theatre 'Titanic' because everyone expects it to sink!smiley - laugh

True, but they all went to the other side of the word, so they're not around any more to disapprove of being associated with pleasure.

Of course, 'Titanic' is the name of a pub in Southampton, although it probably would be in poor taste to ask for ice in your drink...
