4 and 5 or maybe 45 at Exeter? I shall explain if you do not see it.
This would make a fantastic book cover for a mystery thriller
"Excellent shadow work" and the contrasting of the dressed and un-dressed stone of the wall.
I may be wrong but his looks like a colour image that has been edited to monochrome (there is no problem with that), can you confirm, and I can tell you why if you are curious.
Nice work CC.

I think there must be some significance in the fact that the right hand window of the church is missing. As if something got out, or in, that way.

Well done Dimitri
It is quite big when you notice it, please let the others know when they all have had a chance to have a go.
CC will probably find it all a little mystic.

If we're talking Roman numerals, I can see a 4, or a 5 but not both at once!

Evening all! Sorry I'm late! Thanks so much for all the insights and attention for my shadow pic, grabbed on a bike ride home.
What's the 4 and 5 then, Mr Bob? What what what, what's the 4 and 5???? I must know.
Yes, its taken in a vintage setting. I like the vintage setting, I use it when colour seems too bright, but black and white makes me feel flickery, with a crackly radio soundtrack in my head.
Hang about, must check that window that mvp is on about..

Ah! Hah! Just been staring at my own pic. . Not sure I like staring at my own pics, I prefer other peoples'.
I get all shy of my own pictures, because they stare back at me, and ask me who I am, where am I going, and why.
But wait!!! Oooh eh, bit strange, considering its a part Roman wall. The IV and the V in the shadow! 'Tis the 4 and the 5! In Roman numerals. Is it?? Am I right??
I like Roman numerals, especially when you get them on clocks. Ah tis half past IV, time for tea.
Hang about, how did the Romans write the half hour? Or the quarter hour? How did they say IV-thirty?
That is strange, mvp, the window does look missing. I think its there though. I'll check tomorrow. Its the old Holy Trinity Church, in South Gate, which is now the meeting place of the White Ensign Club, for serving and ex-service men and women.
Or perhaps I took a ghost window, or not-window. That area has a dark history, perhaps the missing window is something to do with a wretched inmate from the Kings Prison.
'The plaque fixed on the wall outside the (White Ensign) Club shows where the Medieval South Gate stood. Records show that as far back as the year 1312 a Church was located alongside the South Gate, as was the notorious Kings Prison. This prison was used to house felons and debtors, the prisoners being kept in cells under which an open sewer flowed.'
Quoting from the website for the White Ensign Club. Quite interesting in fact. In truth, I feel a bit spooked on that cycle path. I sense history ghosts.
Yikes, I'm also cycling over an old graveyard.
..the now long-gone graveyard that was on the Southern side of the church, where the grass piece now lies and the area of the cycleway and footpath....
OK that's it, I'm cycling home a different way from now on.

That is fascinating, CC!
You walk on history wherever you go - this part's just noticeable. I might be sitting above some Seneca's favourite campsite. Or a dinosaur's stomping ground...
Nobody likes to do construction in Cologne...it's dig three days, hit Roman ruins, stop for two months while the archaeologists play around, get back to the project, behind and overbudget...
Case in point: they were repairing the Underground. Hit Stuffz. Stopped. Somebody found a mosaic floor from a Roman villa. What did they do?
Built a museum over it... The medieval mikvah (Jewish ritual bath) is in a car park. Or it was, dunno what's there now...

Yes but also IIII the tree shadows also could also 4 there are rare examples in the outer empire, so your shadows can be accepted either way.
Did you convert the image from colour to B&W? It is more effective in monochrome well done.

No! they only acknowledged the passing of time the by the passage of the sun, or perhaps a basic water clock, they did trade with China

That's amazing, Bob! What an insight, a wonderful slice of knowledge. This list reads like a strange poem to me, but then it would. .
Thanks!
And its not spooky, like a lot of history seems to me. Its just an organised system, using the structure of their lives.
Its good to balance out the history ghosts.
I went back along the track today. I checked the wall shadows for the time, , (that wall will never be the same again), but the shadows weren't crisp enough.
The church window is definitely there.
A man walking a springer spaniel wished me good morning. Spring is in the air. The daffodils are in bud.
