Salad vs Stew

Very thought-provoking...

A couple of years ago for NaNoWriMo, I got inspiration by digging out a manuscript I had started ten years before then. I had tried to write from the perspective of three different characters, but re-reading it, I could see two of the characters were tossed salads of characteristics I had read about, while the other was more closely based on my direct experience, so was a much more meaty stew of a character smiley - ok

I used the plot outline to redo the story, this time only from the perspective of 'my' character. I like to think it improved the writing, but as I haven't looked at it for over a year now, it will be interesting to look back again and see what I think now smiley - ok

The NaNoWriMo story I did publish from 2012 was one that did incorporate a substantial amount of my direct experience at the time - it wasn't exactly fine literature, but I like to think it contained a good amount of colour and richness as a result. I'm not a great observer of other humans, but I restricted the story to the limited palette of people I do have knowledge of, and that must have helped...
