Two pretty good rules to live by to avoid fake(d) news:
Don't believe anything coming from blogs, chats or talk/ call-in shows.
Don't believe any source that doesn't very, very clearly differentiates "these are the FACTS as we know them as of today (and this is how we got them)" from "this is my [insert name here] OPINION".
A third rule (yes, I said two) is: the less exciting (ore more boring), the truer it probably is.
And lastly: its easy to be skeptical of stories you find dodgy, it's however more important to double check stories that seem to confirm your point if view.

What good advice!
Do you make an exception for blogs and chats where the writers have obvious expertise?
I'm thinking of things like professional message boards, or the message boards for Snopes and The Straight Dope, and blogs by people with obvious qualifications?

What about blogs that quote h2g2 as a source of information?

I trust experts - they're the guys who give evidence to back their arguments. Fake news, on the other hand, runs on "Believe Me!"
Key: Complain about this post
