617 Squadron, The Dam Busters

0 Conversations

Lincolnshire is a historical county that is situated in east of England. It borders Northamptonshire and Cambridgeshire in the south, South Yorkshire in the northwest, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire in the west, Norfolk to the southeast. To the northwest of the city of Lincoln, is the village of Scampton and nearby is an air base that is remembered for being the home of a certain Bomber squadron. It was from here that, on the night of 16 May, 1943, nineteen Lancaster Bombers took off and headed for the dams in the Ruhr Valley, in Germany. The mission was to destroy the dams and deliver a major blow to the German war machine.
