•01 (pre-dawn): look east before sunrise for Comet ISON, just 2° north of Mars
I was awake at 4.45am so I opened my front door to have a peek at the eastern sky. There hung a beautiful waning crescent moon, very low to the left was Regulus and up to the right was Mars, forming a triangle. I got my binoculars out to focus on the patch of sky above Mars and I did see a dullish blur which wasn't lit at all, unlike some of the background stars. I guess that was Comet ISON but it's not exciting yet as I don't have a powerful telescope. Give it another month and I'll venture to the seafront for a good look with no streetlights to dull the vision.
