Are the "cheesy poofs" devoured in industrial quantities by Cartman in "South Park" an American version of the concept?

Also, ref. United Biscuits: I worked for a brief and educative time on the production lines for MacVities in Stockport. I can testify to the fact that in the nameless labyrinths of the second floor, the cheesy filling for TUC biscuits and yes, for cheesey footballs, is mixed in very large buckets, involving the scientific admixture of cheese powder, water, milk and permitted additives, with garden spades. Yes, exactly the same sort of high-tech device you'd use in the garden for moving earth. And the powder has a smell that can only be described as concentrated hamster cage and old unwashed feet. You have to be there to truly appreciate the nasal bouquet.

Thank you for that! I can smell it exactly as you describe.

So, can you confirm that the same filling was used in both TUC biscuits* and Cheese Footballs at that time? It wouldn't surprise me, but I wasn't aware.

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

Thank goodness AgProv made the comment just when he did - it came in just in time and really rounds off this Entry.

Well done Icy!

Yes, it was certainly a surprise. It fits in remarkably well. smiley - ok

I guess I'd better write the next nostalgic food entry. Any suggestions?

It's Heinz baked beans we eat here. I see from Wiki that you guys haven't produced them since 1928:

That sounds like a story, but I think it starts over on your side...

Dmitri Gheorgheni - Not Banned in China

No, it doesn't. We think putting them on toast is a perverted practice that would never occur to a civilised person. smiley - rofl

On the other hand, Heinz itself is worth an entry - although it would be more about ketchup and pickles.

Come to think of it, the whole question of ketchup - which didn't have tomatoes in it for millennia - is pretty interesting. smiley - winkeye It involves, the Romans, the Chinese, and fish...

1928? That's odd. smiley - huh On 'Mad Men', they were trying for the Heinz baked bean account. With a 'bean ballet':

Beans shouldn't be served on toast unless someone requests it

'beans and toast' is how I like mine, beans have to be hot, toast crispy with butter on, pepper on my beans, toast doubles up as cutlery, how do you like yours?

UK centric but did anyone else see Guy and Maves attempt at making baked beans on The Boat that Guy Built?

Beans on Toast is part of the recommended diet in British prisons.

Nothing to do with the protein content - it's just the only thing you can slide under the door.

A Heinz Entry?

At last!

Somebody can enumerate all the famous Varieties from one to fifty-seven. That's always foxed me...

Oh, about my modest submission to the Entry. You're welcome.

smiley - laugh There never were exactly 57. They picked that number out of a hat - 7 being lucky. But they insisted they had at least that many.

My favourite product of theirs was Lemon Blend. It was a powdered lemonade. Because the chief bass singer in our church choir was a Heinz executive, our church's kids never had to drink Kool-Aid...smiley - whistle He contributed his monthly allowance of free product to the church pantry. smiley - laugh

Don't forget those spookily memorable rhyming slogans:

'All food tastes supreme / With Heinz salad cream'
'Never forgeti / The Heinz spaghetti'

I wonder how many of those slogans were provided by the general public as competition tiebreakers? "Say how much you love Heinz Salad Cream in not more than 10 words"
