They were in a hurry at the Hoggett Farm last night. No time for slow meals.

So we got pizzaburgers. This school cafeteria-inspired foodstuff was so amazingly tasty I thought it must be shared.

And then, of course, there's the Spam angle...

Now I have read the entry and you have referenced Monty Python! (You're forgiven)smiley - ok

I remember taking Ian to visit his Mum in the Old Folks Home. If we were there pre-lunch, the girl came round taking orders for lunch. One option was always "Spam fritters" - to which Eileen (God Bless her soul) always wrinkled up her nose (and would have spat if she hadn't been such a lady) - and chose the other option, whatever it was. We used to travel home singing the Spam song, and Ian made me laugh out loud once when he said that his Mum actually liked pork and luncheon meat, but she insisted Spam was something else, probably made by the devilsmiley - devilsmiley - rofl

I also got an earworm now...
Anyway, that sounds like great comfort food - just probably not very healthy. I'm only not quite sure what spam tastes like. I brought a can from Ireland a few years ago but never dated to open it...

In the supermarket yesterday, Elektra bought a can of Spam to make this as meat sauce to put over rice for the church potluck dinner on Sunday. We had trouble finding the aisle with the Spam, because we hadn't actually bought it before.

That aisle has all the wonder foods: devilled ham, potted meat, etc. I held up a can of Vienna sausages. (Pronounced vye-EH-nuh.) Elektra said, 'No! I will never eat those again!' She tried them once...smiley - winkeye

I got this recipe from my sister, by the way. She got it from her school's cafeteria. smiley - laugh

To be fair the quality of sausages varies a lot. Here sausages are usually sold in sealed packets, but the in-laws frequently sell sausages in glasses from Germany. Some are really good, some are all wobbly and tasteless.

Tav, if you tried to feed a German or Austrian a Vye-enna sausage, you could start a war. smiley - rofl

Do you know what a 'cocktail wiener' is? It's like that... Some people serve them at picnics in a mixture of ketchup, barbecue sauce, and beer... you spear them with a toothpick.

North Carolina novelist Clyde Edgerton wrote a really funny story about a teenager who was trying to annoy the local deputy. The deputy was convinced that there was a 'Satanic cult' operating in the neighbourhood, so the kid wanted to feed his paranoia by creating a fake 'altar' in the park...

But he couldn't figure out what kind of 'sacrifice' to use. He settled for opening a tin of Vienna sausages. smiley - winkeye That's about what they're good for.
