All right:

1. This is 2600+ words long. I apologise. YOU try to summarise the Bible in less space than that, I double-dog dare you.
2. This text is likely to annoy both believers and non-believers. It's not intended to do either, but I probably couldn't help it. I just want to provide some basic information, help the thinking along, and keep the GEs from linking my Entries to that other Guide Entry. smiley - winkeye
3. Galaxy Babe indicated that it would be a good thing for me to do this. I'm not saying this to cast blame upon an innocent Guide Editor - merely to make it clear that this wasn't due to a sudden desire on my part. In fact, I dreaded the job, for reasons (1) and (2).
4. If you have a quibble, PLEASE let it be about facts that can be nailed down. In other words, if the quotes are wrong, the names misspelled, the Hebrew inaccurate, etc, etc. Let's don't argue theology, because this isn't about theology, other than in reference to the books. I do not want to hear words like 'predestination' or 'infant depravity' hurled about. And no, I do not want to discuss Noah's Ark.

Thank you.

Finally I have had time to read this through.

I am astounded and have learned a lot. I had no idea you could read the New Testament in Klingon. That's a nugget I will share with Ian tomorrow. He will laugh.

Just one query: >>Gospel of Thomas 5.<< is that an error, his name, should be a footnote, or there were many Thomas' and he was 5th in the list? (smiley - laugh)

Thank you very much for writing up this informative entry. smiley - towel

smiley - rofl Great video, TC!

Hear some Bible in Klingon:

A commentator said it sounded like Serbian, although I think that is an exaggeration. I have heard people speak Serbian much more quietly. smiley - winkeye

That 'Gospel of Thomas, verse 5'. There are no chapters. I'll just add 'verse' to clear that up. Thomas was a twin, but five of him would be way too many.

I've finally got round to reading this entry. It is nicely concise, with links and directions for further reading where the reader's interest has been awakened - the perfect mix. No niggles or queries from my end from first impressions.

"1. This is 2600+ words long. I apologise. YOU try to summarise the Bible in less space than that, I double-dog dare you. "

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

smiley - ok That's a perfect summary of the subject matter. I agree, the rest is commentary, as Hillel said about the Golden Rule and the Torah.

I did think of a point to make after I'd posted this morning, but the internet packed up on me just as I hit "post message".

You mention Luther several times, but do rather assume that everyone knows who he was and what he did. Maybe a leeetle footnote when he first comes up?

Excellent at first glance! Well ordered and helpful!

Tiny typo in the OT list: 1 Samuel < I Samuel > to match the others

Another attempt at a précis:

The Bible's a choice compilation
Of tales for our edification.
Our lessons begin
With original sin
And progress to eternal damnation.
