Who would have thought there was so much to say about the humble duffel?
Can't think of even the smallest nit to pick with it.
Congrats Dr M and whoever started this one off.

Another winner Dr T
One typo: "...British politician of sorts from the late 1970s who [w]as accused..."
I will forever associate duffel coats with CND marches on Aldermaston during the late 1950s

Excellent entry.
>>Sporting a Duffel Coat seems, paradoxically, to convey eccentricity, left-wing liberalism, and geekiness, at the same time as conservatism, traditionalism and wealth.
It's difficult to describe why the duffel coat has so much appeal and 'alternative' chic now, and that's a great way of putting it.
I have vague memories of me and my two sisters all being kitted out in camel duffel coats when we were little. I'm almost positive that they had proper wooden toggles as well.
How about a follow-up entry on the Parka - another successful cross-over from geekdom to haute couture?
Not as fine a pedigree as the Duffel, but equally interesting from a socio-political perspective.

Gnomon - time to move on Posted Nov 19, 2002
Hi Dr T!
I think the Bo Derrick reference doesn't quite work, since you assume that people will immediately think of Dudley Moore when they think of Bo Derrick. That may be true for most, but it probably needs an explanatory note.
You might like to link to my Ravel's Bolero entry at A534115.

Hi Dr Monty,
You've postively 'Montified' this piece into a stylish and informative addition to the EG,
I do agree with Gnomon (hi G, ) about the Bo Derrick thing. It's a clever gag, but i'm not sure it quite works that way. up to you, though...
And slight quibble of my own: I'd have thought there must be some more universal object than an 'Old English penny' (sic) that could be used to illustrate the size and shape of the buttons on a donkey jacket.
so, c you on the front page,
spiff

Gnomon - yes a Bolero link is in order. Thanks.
Spiff - the old english penny. hmmm, thinking, maybe the size of a kenyan shilling?
Both - I'll consider a footnote for the Bo Derrick link, but anything more will need subedding.
Thanks for your input.

Great entry, I would pick it but my names on it and some people may see that as bias
But I'm sure someone will be along shortly (or 3 will turn up together)

Done my best on the Bo Derrick thing. Hope I haven't made it too clumsy. I was all fingers and thumbs meself just thinking about it.

If you get this in the EG I will stick a fiver down the wire so you can buy a couple of. The idea is simply outrageous!

Researcher U182095 (Ashley Reeves) deserves the credit for imagination.

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

Thanks chaps - along with Peer Review: A873281 - Black and Tan - A Beer Cocktail my first two Flea Market salvage-attempts were successful today.
I might try some more - a good PR thread first time around makes life easy.
'How to Order Concrete' is looking good.

I agree, I thought "concrete" looked promising first time around. It was a shame the author gave up on it.

Another good one! The only things I'd point out - if it's not too late - are that I think the lady in question spells herself as Bo Derek, and (a very obscure fact, this) Michael Foot has recently become a board member of Plymouth Argyle FC despite being a ripe old age. I only know this due to being a big Argyle fan myself and have joined in a chorus of 'There's only one Michael Foot' when he walked past as we were queueing to get into the away end at Barnet last year.

Thanks.
It hasn't gone pending yet, so if I get any consultation during Editing, I'll draw this to their attention.
