One quick suggestion, having spoken to Rebekka a few days ago (we met up over New Year and I ended up at this Goth club, but anyway...)

A small section on spectators ettiquette might be an idea. She was complaining that some men don't look at the dancers, because they're embarrassed, and some have a tendency to look in the dancer's eyes. Both approaches are apparently wrong. You've paid to see the naked women, so look at them. So I'm told smiley - smiley

That's a good point, Doctor G. Actually though, I'm thinking of writing an entire entry on Spectator's Etiquette. There's a lot more to say than I could easily slip into this one, I think, and this one's written for the girls.

Besides looking in the right place, you can be polite or rude by what you say, whether you buy dances and when, whether you buy the girl a drink and when... lots of stuff.

I didn't know that about not looking into their eyes. I usually focus on the show they're putting on, but if I'm going to say something to her, I'm not going to address it to her tits or crotch; I'll look up at her face then. Staring into her eyes the whole time and missing the show you've paid for seems a bit silly at best, creepy at worst.

I know that the one time I was dragged along to a strip club, I spent my time looking everywhere except where I was supposed to. Not my scene, I guess smiley - winkeye

I hadn't thought about all that. Guess I just assumed guys were always looking at one or the other, unless you turn around and then they got something else to look at. Well I think you did an excellent job on the entry. I can't wait to see your Spectator's Etiquette entry too, should give me a perspective I've never quite imagined smiley - winkeye

I was in a strip club once (quite a down-at-heel one) where the girl who had danced came round afterwards with a pint glass in which to collect money. One of the people I was with, a bloke, refused to put money in the glass and it was horribly embarrassing and rude. If you are a bloke and you have been watching, you *have* to put money in the glass, even if its only a quid. The girl was nice about it, but I thought he was pathetic. He didn't want to be there, so he should have left.

The other thing you have to do is applaud after a girl has finished a dance, even if you weren't particularly watching. This might only apply to pub-strip-clubs, which are smaller and have more ambient light.

The whole looking at faces thing is interesting. I have observed many men who are happy to look at a woman's body when she is some distance away, but if she comes right up close they look really embarrassed and will only look at her face. Which is funny, because her face isn't usually doing very much (sometimes she just looks bored).

Women do find this annoying. After all, a strip club is no place to be coy (although its no place to be rude either!). I suppose it would be like being in a restaurant and saying to the waitress "I feel really guilty about you carrying my food for me. Why don't I just pop to the kitchen and get it myself".

Well done GTB on a good re-write. All of us here in-house are happy to now accept this entry, with the one proviso that we may well add a link or a paragraph stressing the potential dangers of 'Being A Table-top Dancer'. Having been to a few of these joints myself (I'll explain later) and having spoken to lots of folk with tales to tell, I can say for certain, that in many cases, being a table-top dancer in the UK is not a particularly pleasant or *safe* job.

Nevertheless, we acknowledge the ace job you've done here and the entry's a-goin'-in. smiley - smiley

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

Hi Sam, thanks! smiley - smiley

An extra word of caution sounds fine; my only request would be that any changes be made to my text rather than to the blockquotes of Lil's work, if that's at all possible, as they are exact quotes.

It might also be good to add a note somewhere saying that this entry was written with the US industry in mind. That's the one edit I was still thinking of making.

Thanks everyone, for being part of the PR process on this one. I'm really glad it's worked out as well as it has.

smiley - cheers

Congrats all involved, smiley - bubbly

obviously a slightly unusual gestation for this one, and a fine result, i hope, for everyone; keeping the EG real and keeping individuals' input personal. smiley - ok

particularly Lilith, who wrote the original entry, and GTB, who has followed it up and brought it the lasting stamp of EG froodiness. smiley - biggrin
