Oh, Maggie - definitely. I don't care that she's long since lost any influence - she's right at the top of my list.

That fellow William Hague used to really got on my wick.

Strangely I don't get the same "Oh, that GIT is on the TV - change the channel NOW" feeling about IDWho? ~ Probably because he seems so.. innocuous?

The first Tory leader to be judged too nondescript to deserve a wax dummy in Madame Tussauds...Hmm, wax dummies and Tory MPs, how to tell the two apart?

I suppose wax dummys only sweat under heat, while most Tory MPs sweat under close scrutiny...

It's easy to tell tory MPs (at least in Canada) from their wax effigies. The wax, while looking more lifelike, requires dusting more often as the MPs are often seen scuttling about like the cockroaches they are....

Personally I think anybody that fits the following requirements should be shot on the spot:

1: S/he thinks s/he would make/is a good politician.

2: S/he wants to be a politician.

All the actually GOOD politicians I've ever seen answered yes to one of these questions, but I've never seen one that said yes to both.

True. There are many stories about good politicians getting their start through the encouragement of friends and family. Or being incensed by events and seeing no one else stepping up to deal with it.

I've always noticed that the people who most want to be boss are the people least suited to the job and most likely to become 'power mad' or corrupted by power. The best cops are not the one who want to chase bad guys but the ones who want to protect the public. The best soldiers are the one who hate war the most. The main failing of most politicians is they spend most of their time worrying about re-election in one way or another. Their main concern is hanging on to office, not providing good government.
I've always thought a better solution to democracy in certain situations (such as student councils, small town municipal governments and an alternative to the canadian senate) might be govenment by jury - a group of randomly selected people screened by a panel of judges, academics, and their predecessors to weed out the obvious cranks, crooks and dimbulbs (Bush, Bush and Bush for example) who are required to serve for a period of time, just like jury members. Could a dozen high school graduates chosen at random and screened (as above) do a worse job of running your hometown than the sleazy developers, business boosters and self-important half-wit glad-handers who invairiably get elected because no one pays attention to local politics until their particular ox gets gored?
Think about it....
