Ya know, I believe if you start studying now, you could have a degree in IT and Computer Science and there'll still be plenty of Pliny bugs left for you. smiley - winkeye

The computer tech brain fairy has not waved its wand for me either, prof.

Gnomon - time to move on

Or like me you could find the solution to some of the bugs, present them to the techs and be ignored.

If my solution is correct, it really would take less than 5 minutes to put in place and then we'd have borrders on tables again. But I tried for two years to get someone to try it.

I only remember one annoying bug atm: When you respond to a post you don't see the post you are responding to, but the last one before that - which is often your own smiley - erm

I confess I find the table bug smiley - ant VERY ANNOYING! Mind you, I have created an above average number of tables. I suppose it may even be possible that I've written more tables than anyone else. While it is useful to know Gnomon's workaround solution, it just isn't the same as having working tables...

If we can't have working tables, I suppose working comfy chairs with cushions is out of the question…?

Here's a thought (it didn't hurt, ok)

The history of pliny from idea and reason why it was needed, to where it is now, could be wrote for an issue in "The Post" ?
Lots of "The Post" readers and other Hootooers would be "enlightened" as all would be explained.

I like that idea. I would say that it's all Greek to me, but obviously Pliny was a Roman. That is, there were *two* Plinys (Plinies?), and both were Romans. The elder of the two died during the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 A.D. Pliny the Elder, who commanded the Roman fleet at Misenum, responded to a call for assistance from people stranded on the beach. Pliny died during the rescue effort, though his companions suffered no ill effects. It is thought that he suffered a heart attack or stroke.

His encyclopedia of natural history ran to 37 volumes, and has been a key source for people interested in the state of knowledge of his time. Perhaps it is unfortunate that he was unable to return from this trip; he could have written the definitive account of the volcano. smiley - sadface

Yes.

Let's think positive thoughts. Let's not panic. The site is not all that it could be, but maybe that's beside the point. How many of us really use more than 10% of our brain capacity, or develop our talents enough to become the next great athlete or pop star or novelist? We don't have the huge number of researchers that we used to, but so what? In many organizations, a third of the people do 80% of the work (I may be misremembering some research that I read on the topic, but I'd be surprised if most of the people reading this would differ to a great extent).

We have the guide entries that earlier smiley - elvissmiley - elvis researchers wrote, and we have the new ones that are being written now. We have pockets of continuity such as the and peer review, and an infrastructure.

The next time Pliny hiccups, some of the things we learned this time will probably be useful in fixing them.

If departed researchers come back and want to join in again, I humbly suggest that we welcome whatever contributions they have to offer now. If there are fewer people here, then the ones we do have are that much more important.

smiley - shhh (Pssst... That "10% brain" thing is an urban legend, not true, every part of the brain is used and has specific functions. We just don't understand how it all works.)

I love to read new information about how the brain works. I can't say that any of the new findings have been conducive to being put to use, though.
