Some of you may notice that we have switched to a new login and registration as of today.

This is a small part of our efforts to update the site, and only the beginning of what is to come in the future for the site.

While we believe most things in the new parts are self explanatory, feel free to let us know if you have any questions or comments.

If I'm getting on to the site OK and remain logged in, do I have to go and check what those Vogons are up to anyway or should I just wait and see?

I'd say stay where you are.

I seem to be still logged in on the Ripley / Alabaster system, but am no longer logged in to Pliny and am unable to log in on the new Login page. It says invalid username / password.

Pierce also cannot log in

It may be that you need to use the Reset Password link, to update your password to a bit higher complexity (lower case, upper case and numbers). This requires that the email address in the system is current - the reset will be using your email including a link to use.

If the email is not current, please mail [email protected] for help. Do try the reset functionality first though

Thanks, Milla. That worked perfectly. I'm now equipped with a shiny new password and can log in to the Pliny system.

Another issue is if the email in your preferences is old/incorrect/not working. In this case you also need to contact the moderators, since reset emails will not reach you.

And in some cases, the login name is still the numeric part of U-number, so in case of trouble, you may also try that.

... and here I was thinking I had it tested but of course I couldn't check each account...

I had exactly the same as Gnomon (now I'm in Pliny on my phone) Got back in with user number and same old password as evsr. The post above was from Goo on my laptop and required no extra effort. The Vogons seem to have respect for Ripley.

Well, I would advise to use the new login anyway, it's a bit stronger than the old one. Once you are in pliny, you could use Ripley again, just typing the url, if you are so inclined.
And make sure all your preferences are correct

Using an alternate browser, I took a look at the new log-in. Do be prepared with a fair sized screen to answer the photo distinction questions (Captcha anti-robot). Some weren't entirely easy with my 15.5" laptop screen.

No problems.

Used new system to log in with no problems for the first time in about a year.
