Good stuff, anhaga!

Effers, the Artists will be doing pretty much what they've done all along here, but perhaps with more banners/incidental art and some merchandise design for the shop.smiley - ok

I didn't have a clue Mal what artists did pretty much here. I thought noohootoo might be something new.

But cheers for letting me know.

Nobody does - for a visual group, we're pretty invisible! So we need to work on changing that. smiley - ok

What you described just sounds like 'illustration' to me...my idea of art might be quite different and could be to do with stuff in the guide itself. But recently everything I've tried to do with h2g2 has just gone wrong..which can knock your confidence.

It's pretty rock bottom actually and for the life of me I don't really know how I fit in here.

My work is more about 'ideas'.

And actually just leave it. Something might change in the future..but I don't want to talk anymore about it here for now.

Carry on with your other stuff.

Effers, the reason we've tried to bring Artists, AViators, and Photograpers together is precisely because each of those disciplines are converging and trying to keep one or other as the 'pure' thing cuts against what art should be about. At school I always thought teachers were wrong to try and 'teach' art. Introduce the kids to the possibilities, yes, but don't try to 'teach' them how to do it because there is no right and proper way to paint a picture or make a sculpture.

The same is true for the arts on h2g2. We need to be able to create new, wonderful things that don't exist on h2g2 at present and that requires us to talk to each other and work together to build new projects. When I was defending the need to converge (and even now, there are some who would rather be doing their own thing without having to talk to anyone else about what they are working on) I gave the example of animation. If you draw a picture it's art, but if you draw a series of pictures and show them rapidly in succession it becomes a movie. Expand that further and use a series of photos instead of pictures. Cut around the subject of each photo and place them on a painted background etc., you can see how the disciplines merge.

Working together can create possibilities that each of us as individuals hasn't thought of. If I understand you correctly, you are thinking of art forming part of the guide in it's own right, not just as an illustration for a guide entry? That's a fantastic concept, and one which would certainly take us into new territory. We need exactly that sort of thinking in the new h2g2. Don't get depressed about all the changes, this is a superb chance to take what was a shamefully overlooked BBC site and turn it into an exciting and vibrant place to be. New ways of utilising art on h2g2 is exactly the sort of thing we need to be working on. Come and join us, you'll be most welcome.smiley - cheerup

Yep that's very encouraging to read Radox. My problem is working out how to work with others here I think....especially as it's an online thing. A few times lately it's gone wrong because I'm a difficult sort of person..

All this upheaval is quite confusing.

But I find your post hugely encouraging. It's good to read stuff about people looking at fun and new ways we might do stuff..and of course new people will join us.

Yes, thanks anhaga, I will put you on the list. smiley - smiley

I hope Jordan or someone will invite you to our part of Noesis as soon as you sign up there.

Could I again ask *everyone* to just give a quick post in the welcome thread in the artists volunteer group on Noesis so I can see who really is there?

The world would be a boring place if we got along with each other all the time. smiley - cheerup Effers, we really do need you to bring your ideas and join us in the group - even if you have too much going on in RL to commit fully, new Hootoo needs to accept people get those situations and be able to cope with it accordingly. Some of us were discussing ways of making that happen only yesterday over on Noesis. smiley - ok

Yeah where to go?

When I first saw Noesis I absolutely hated the look of it. It seemed bizarre to me that a web site could look that bad.

But give me a link to sign up.

I find it uninviting, myself.

I notice that some people are listed as being members of 'groups' (some familiar names are members of something called 'h2g2') but there doesn't seem to be any way to find a list of groups one might like to join.smiley - erm

Mrs Zen

Most of the board is open to anyone who signs up, including us. We've got a corner tucked away out of sight.

We need a smiley. I think smiley - smooch comes closest.
