A Conversation for Introducing the Volunteer Teams

The Corrupt One

I'm not entirely sure what sort of role I'm best suited for, but I once was an ACE (ages ago!) and am certainly eager to help my first and favorite community on the web in any way I can. I've been a terrible slacker insofar as writing for the Guide is concerned, but editing would be an interesting way to spend time. Or back to ACEing, though the bits of community I'm most familiar with are... a bit bizarre. smiley - winkeye

In short: I'd love to help! I just never know what to sign up for. smiley - biggrin

Wahoo! Another person back from the past! *does the happy dance*

At the moment there's not mega-lots to do but I bet there will be in the future. At the moment most of the action goes on in <./>Askh2g2</.>; we're pretty small these days (but not for long smiley - evilgrin).

White Novo

I'm always happy to lend a hand to anyone in need, I've learned quite alot about GuideML in such a short space of time, and I'm always happy to welcome people to this wonderful land (even though I have been too busy lurking and gaining knowledge since I registered)smiley - smileysmiley - magic

Wonderful! We haven't got anything specific running at the moment, although there are a couple of projects that are going at A85850175 if you want to join in. smiley - smiley

Effers;England.

I want to sign up for this.

I'm not quite sure how I'll fit in...but I want to be involved in some way if I think bullying is going on. I want to come down really strongly on that. Hopefully that will be backed by the structures.

Vip, I sent an email about moderation volunteering. And clearly the new site will need some good mods. I just had a journal entry removed for being offensive because I posted about how I reconcile being vegan with supporting zoos and aquariums. smiley - sadface

Ag had an incredibly supportive post removed from my journal because she referred to one of her previous supervisors as a richard. She put in a star, and everything.

To the credit of the Italics, they put it back and apologised. But they shouldn't have to deal with carp like that.

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am...

I had a post about Torchwood removed because I described a character in less than complimentary terms and one of our friendly Moderators decided that if the *actor* were to see it he might be offended. smiley - facepalm It was reinstated though.

I'm actually surprised the journal entry about my choice of lifestyle hasn't been deemed offensive on entirely spurious grounds. And it makes me sad that the non-removal of said journal entry surprises me.

Geez, reading all of that makes me sad, too. But it won't be long now!

A kind person who managed to read my journal entry before it was removed has suggested it might have been because I used the word "activist", which might have negative connotations associated with illegal activity- which is ironic given a recent discussion elsewhere where I mentioned when in doubt, I always report posts which seem to advocate illegal acts, and it seemed that the current HRs allow for *discussion* of said topics so long as no actual illegal acts are being sanctioned. Surely the mere *existence* of people who volunteer, contribute financially and write letters to their congressmen can't be offensive? Or perhaps someone took umbrage because I used a word for "poo", which has always been allowed and doesn't trigger the filter. I replied to the moderation email but have not received a reply.

Not that I'd bother editing it. I'll just refrain from starting new journal entries till we're free of the current moderation team. smiley - ok Not ticked off or anything, I just think it's a little sad.

I have to say, though, that this:

"I described a character in less than complimentary terms and one of our friendly Moderators decided that if the *actor* were to see it he might be offended"

is the cream of the crop. Good grief.
