Deek

I 'think' I’d also like to volunteer. Although I think my capabilities would only extend as far as Scouting.

But, like Pinniped, if you’ll have me, and depending what needs Scouting, I'd like to help. Although in the latter respect I‘m probably on the other end of the stick.

Hey Deke! We hope there will be lots of things that need Scouting as the momemtum builds.

And a note to everyone: Do drop by into Peer Review and lurk smiley - lurk or comment.

I'd particularly like a bit of support for this Entry

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/classic/A85559412 as Mathematics is something I feel rather hesitant about.

I would like to remain as a Scout, but can't promise just how much I can volunteer given what I may be committing myself to on the other thread. smiley - yikes

Hi Deke smiley - smiley

I heard an item on Radio 4 this morning about the end of the space shuttle programme, and it made me think of your great series of aviation and space entries. smiley - rocket

I really hope we can continue to attract people to write authoritative and definitive articles like those smiley - smiley

I am willing to continue as a Scout, but I'd quite like to do a bit of Sub-editing.

Oh good! In fact better than good. I was just wondering whether to come and hammer on your door h5ringer.

Mebbe I should trawl around the other existing Scouts and see what they have in mind?

I liked being a sub, but I'm not sure exactly how much time I can devote at the moment. Scouting I can do just by "grazing" the site, Subbing requires a bit more attention. What kind of workload is the current expectation?

Not so much to begin with, as I imagine our existing team of sub-eds will want to carry on with their tasks.

We just _really_ need a great set of Scouts to welcome authors and critique their Entries. This is where I personally think we are short of bright shiny faces.

Scouts are SO important, as they are the face of h2g2 for a lot of newbies who arrive here with their hopeful dreams wrapped up in their writing. It is essential we get the culture right, from the outset. Plus, a fair few of the current, hardworking Scouts are also hardworking ACEs, Sub-editors and Community Artists. I know there is a saying 'If you want a job doing, ask a busy person,' but I would like to see some new blood. Not that I want to say goodbye to the existing Scouts - far from it. smiley - yikes

Of course, we really need to have a discussion as to the way forward - and the more different voices we can include, the healthier the outcome. So, by raising your hand here, you can be included in the proposed forum where any proposals can be discussed.

I know this sounds a bit vague, but to begin with the techie guys need precedence on getting the site sorted. Making any changes to the existing roles and protocols won't be happening any time soon.

I like your phrase 'grazing the site' broelan, and am delighted to see that you had time to encourage in PR earlier! smiley - ok

I try to get into PR when I can, my internet availability has just recently been improved so I'm a bit more useful now. "broelan" has never been a scout, but "miloso" was for a couple of years before my access was restricted, and a sub for awhile, too. I lost the miloso account during the last login upgrade.

My opinion is that we should bring in as many volunteers as we can, even if they can only sit down and do something once a month or so. I've never heard a persuasive argument against that. Large expectations can lead to burnout, anyway. If I was required to do two sub entries every week (for example), then I think I would lose my mind before a month was over.

"As and when" is my philosophy smiley - smiley Welcome broe, Deke, sprout, bel, h5ringer, all... I'm working on the offsite fora. There are some issues in setting them up I won't bother you with (not confidential, just mundane). Should be very soon, I hope. smiley - ok

Malabarista - now with added pony

Count me in as a Scout, too. I think I might need to hang up the sub-ed hat for a while, just because there's so much else to do...

As promised, the noesis offsite volunteer forum is now up and running. We plan to use those as a home for volunteers and the editorial brain trust. So if we could mosey on over there, that would be terrific.

To do so, follow this painless two-step process.

Step 1- Sign up for an account at http://forum.noesify.com/
Step 2- Let Ottox, Vip or myself know the user name of your noesis account and the group(s) you've signed up for. We will then put you into the appropriate user group(s) on noesis, and you will be able to see the corresponding forums.

You can post your user name to this conversation, one of our personal spaces, or you can email me at "jodantaylor" of the gmail variety of email address. We'll get to you as soon as possible - but keep in mind that things like time zones, w*rk and real life do exist (for some).

Yes, I see your account on the noesis forum. All I need to know is which volunteer groups you have, well, volunteered for. Scout, Sub-editor, Curator, Tech Volunteer, Guru, Art and AV, etc. Then I can give your noesis account permissions to view those fora.
