Entry: Geocaching - A851528
Author: Danks - U206225
This is the first article I have written and as far as I can see it meets the writing guidelines. I understand the subject and its technology, but have I explained it in such a way that someone new to the idea will get it too?

Hello Danks.
What an excellent entry, and may I say what a breath of fresh air it is for someone to take the time to read and follow the guidelines before submitting their entry. You've no idea how happy that makes those of us who patrol Peer Review. I may
Can I give you a couple of GuideML tips?
Rather than using the tag, try wrapping each paragraph within a ..... paragraph tag.
When linking to a DNA page, you don't need to add the A number as text, only the words you want to use to describe it, whether those words be the name of the entry or not - the actual name of the entry will appear in the links box. This only works with DNA pages though - external links will appear in the links box as whatever you write within the tag. You could rewrite it like this, for instance:
"Letterboxing on Dartmoor is very popular."
Or:
"Letterboxing is very popular on Dartmoor."
Having said that, I'm not sure if you'll be able to keep that link in the entry if it is picked and accepted. Edited h2g2 entries can only link to other edited h2g2 entries (ie, not to *unedited* entries), but I'm not sure about linking to Sense of Place entries. Anyone else got more info on that?
With your external links, you can insert text within the tag as you have done, and with your first link to geocaching.com, you could say something like:
"...into which they load the cache locations from The official geocaching website." (Don't forget to put the final full stop *outside* the tag )
That avoids putting a full url into the entry (which never looks quite right) rather than a text link.
As this entry is so good and so close to being finished, you may be disappointed to find that it generates much less attention during the seven day incubation period before it can be recommended by a Scout, than other entries which need more work done on them. This is always a good sign
Well done

Thank you Gosho for the very useful advice. I have replaced the tags with .. and I have changed the Letterboxing on Dartmoor link, so that it points to an external website rather than the DNA page, in case this does get picked for the edited guide and it turns out to be a problem. I have also tidied up some of the other links.
I have not changed the text in the second link to the Geocaching website, for two reasons. Firstly, it is right at the end of the article and, secondly, I don't give the URL anywhere else.
Thanks for your time on this. It will be interesting to see what additional feedback I get. In the meantime I have a few other ideas that I can start working on...

A fascinating and well-written entry. The sort of thing that warms the cockles of a Scout's heart. From what I can see the article doesn't really neeed any more work doing to it.

I have to agree with Gosho and Felonius monks comments, this is a very good entry. It is informative, interesting, and well written, the main things I look for in an entry. It is also occasionally rather amusing, although the humour doesn't appear forced, it all seems to come naturally.
It might be worth linking to this entry:A523216 on the GPS system. But apart from that, I can't see any room for improvement at the moment. I might have another look later, though.
Well Done Danks

Thanks Felonius Monk and Silverfish. I have added a link to that GPS article, which is excellent explanation of a potentially complex subject - I must have been away from school when they covered spherical geometry...

I did some checking with the powers that be, and apparently it was the correct thing to remove the Sense of Place link, leastways until such time as they formulate their own editing process.

And to me too! I'm surprised in a way that this entry has attracted so few responses in PR, but that's probably largely because a lot of people don't know what geocaching is. I certainly didn't before I read this, but you've explained it superbly!
Congratulations - Your Entry has been Picked for the Edited Guide!

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

Well, this is great. Thank you to everyone who has replied in Peer Review. I'll be watching how the article progresses from here, but in the meantime I had better get on with some research.
Best wishes
Danks
