Hi Morgo. Nobody ever discusses anything here. I want to ask the opinion of the assembled brain cells: is 'will' a metaphysical property?

Change means movement. Movement means friction. Only in the frictionless vacuum of a nonexistent abstract world can movement or change occur without that abrasive friction of conflict.

This isn't supposed to be a discussion. You post a wise saying like "Look before you leap" or "Virtue is its own reward" and we all nod and say "truly" and leave it at that.

Anyway your question like all philosophical questions looks like a troll.

Answers! Not questions! 42!

"Beware litugical cats."

or in other words: a metaphor for "Doing something for something's sake but not knowing why you are doing it."

As I was told the story:

"A muslim Immam used to own a cat which when he went into the place of worship would follow him around and disrupt the service. So he took a pole planted it in the ground and tied the cat to it. This ritual carried on in exactly the same way for several years until the cat died. So the Imam brought another cat who displayed the same tendancies to follow him into the place of worship and disrupt proceedings so he did the same thing and tied it to a pole outside.

Eventually the Imam died and the new Imam inhereted his cat and suffered the same problem and sued the same soltution. This continued for thousands of years until eventually as part of the liturgy, a ceremony was performed whereby a cat was reverentily brought from the temple outside and tied to a pole using a particularly fine rope and the display had a great deal of importance - but no one understood why they did it."

It was intended as a metphor when someone was discussng re-structuring (in this case a christian church - my mum is part of a church council and I was beign relayed the story by her) and was encountering all sorts of resitance from intersted parties because it involved doing away with with some long treasured rituals that under examination held little real meaning but were merely being done for their own sake.

So there you have it. "Beware liturgical cats."

Of course it's real fun smiley - smiley The only way to measure fun is whether or not you experience it... So it has to be real if you experience it, even if the thing you're experiencing fun as isn't..

Let me take you down
Cause I'm going to Strawberry Fields
Nothing is real
Nothing to get hung about
Strawberry Fields for ever

Living is easy with eyes closed
Misunderstanding all you see
It's getting hard to be someone but it all works out
It doesn't matter much to me

No one I think is in my tree
I mean it must be high or low
That is you can't you know tune in but it's all right
That is I think it's not too bad

Always no[/know] sometimes think it's me
But you know I know when it's a dream
I think uh no I mean uh yes but it's all wrong
That is I think I disagree

Tonsil Revenge (PG)

Those who seek offense rarely fail to take it.

If at first you don't succeed, subcontract.

When I was a kid, I thought adults knew what they were doing.

If you prepare to be pleased, you soon will be.
If you prepare to be disappointed, you never will be.
