Clive the flying ostrich: Amateur Polymath | Chief Heretic.

I'm writing an Guide Entry for the EG and what I'm looking for is a picture of telegraph poles stretching from the foreground to the background over the horizon.

Does one exist or can one be made?

If the later I humbly bed and offer smiley - gift of smiley - choc that the sky above the telegraph be lit with aurora!

Thanks! smiley - biggrin

I'm fascinated by the concept of bedding chocolate. And yet repulsed. smiley - bigeyessmiley - yuk But bedding it before offering it to other people is Just Not Done. smiley - tongueincheek

But back on topic...

I doubt we have such a thing at the moment - I've not come across it.

And it might be entirely possible to draw such a thing. (One point perspective is so refreshing!)

Depends on whether the Entry is worthy of it, though smiley - whistle

Spot the typo.... smiley - doh

Yeah - point perspective is exactly what I had in mind.

I scanned through the Picture archive earlier - but didn't find anything that matched the bill.

I've decided to write up my "What Hath God Wrought" QI thread with the geo-magnetically powered telegraphs running without batteries.

Going to try to navigate the path of describing the telephonic network system and technology. The science of solar events and storms and then the events in 1859.

Work in progress here: A43562586

Just started tonight sorting out some place-holder headings, and the links and doing some further research (reading the American Science journals from 1859 - 1860 with the direct observations made across the N. Hemisphere.)

Well I'm off to bed for the night, I got as far as the May 1860 Vol XXIX.

I shall be dreaming of aurora - I know it!

(still there are worse things, I suppose...)

I just had a look at the entry, too. Didn't read it all, though.

Over 10,000 words, plus 2,000 more words in footnotes? smiley - dohsmiley - headhurts

Try making it several entries. That's over 30 pages of material you have there now smiley - online2long

I know...and some of it is bound to be replicated in other guide entries, I'm going to need a really good editor.

I figured best way to get it all done was to get it all out and to start trimming back when it's done.

I've still go the major stuff to finish off about magnetic storms and what they are and then the 1st draft should be complete.

Just looked at the image - one word:

BRILLIANT!!!!!!!

Exactly the sort of thing I had in mind. smiley - wowsmiley - applause

smiley - laugh Good luck paring it down. Maybe it would work better as two entries, an in-depth one about magnetic storms and one where there's just a paragraph with a link to that one?

I think I need to change the rails slightly - it now looks like they're on the outside of the ties, when really, the lines closer to the middle are meant to be the actual rails. But I drew it all on the computer, so that shouldn't be a problem - I'll revise it before I send it in. smiley - ok
